Winter in South Africa

Winter in South Africa happens opposite of the northern hemisphere. We think of May as spring, but in South Africa it’s fall. When it is cold and snowy in the Midwest, people in South Africa are on the beach basking in the sun. Having been in South Africa 3 times in August, I have found that it is cool at night, sometimes around 45 degrees, and it is comfortable during the day with 72-78 degrees and lots of sun. I personally like going in August as there are fewer leaves on the trees, and it makes seeing animals easier. September in South Africa is similar to our spring. Flowers abound, and the beginnings of rain. However, there is always green vegetation of different varieties in South Africa so compared to our Wisconsin snow in winter, South Africa is lush.
