Big Game Farming in South Africa

Writer's picture: John MunsonJohn Munson

Big game farms are part of the landscape of South Africa. Just like we raise cows, South African game farmers raise native animals for the food market. Game farmers raise Nyala, Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu and other animals to be sold in local meat markets. Part of each of my safaris includes a visit to a working game farm to observe, firsthand, how these wild animals are propagated and managed. Our guides Daniel and Dorea DuToit are experienced game farmers. We’ve often helped capture some game as part of our safari experience. Game farming assures an abundance of wild animals as they are carefully managed. It is quite an experience petting a Sable or a Golden Wildebeest or holding a Nyala’s horns. See how we safely get close enough to the animals. Come along and learn for real game farmers.
