Axe, the Amazing Elephant

His name is “Axe” and he lives in the area surrounding the Lataba Compound in Kruger National Park. Axe is estimated to be 65 years old, and his tusks each weigh about 120 pounds. Being 65 makes him a very old elephant and one of the top 10 largest elephants in South Africa. My wife and I had just left the Lataba camp, and standing beside the road no more than 50 feet away was Axe. He was so close I had to grab my pocket camera as my zoom lenses on my big camera would not focus. What a privilege it was to see this magnificent animal.
